@lxsameer mathematics is making up rules just so they have the intended consequences, and working with those made up rules in order to find out whether the intentions made sense to begin with.
Mathematics is uniquely defined as the study of pure reason.
One frequently abuses notation to refer to *applications of mathematics* themselves as mathematics, but they are not strictly speaking mathematics any more than the behavior of vacuuming is itself a vacuum cleaner.
